AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Some 28 thousand reference books have been donated to the central library of Astan Quds Razavi during the second quarter of the current year.
According to Isa Akhtari Tousi, head of Technical Services Department of the central library of Astan Quds Razavi, “some 60 percent of the donated references are in Persian, while Arabic and English works constitute the bulk of the donated works”.
He noted that most of the references are about Islamic sciences, literature and history, technical and applied sciences, children and young adults.
Pointing to some scholars and distinguished figures such as Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Makhmalbaf, Nasser Hosseinpour Azadi, Mohammad Kamalinasab, etc. as the major donors, the official continued that some internal organizations of AQR, some national bodies like the National Library and Archives, Research Institute of Hawzeh and University, printing houses, etc. contributed nearly 7300 sources.
He further talked about the categorization and cataloguing of these works, stressing that they would be distributed among different sections of AQR’s central and affiliated libraries based on their needs. Also, the surplus would be donated to other libraries and cultural centers across the country upon their request through AQR’s mobile library.
The Central Library of Astan Quds Razavi is a large library in Mashhad. Established before 363 AH (1457), it holds over 1.1 million volumes. It is an international center for Islamic research, containing numerous manuscripts and rare works of antiquity of Islamic history.
